Kuretake “IPPITSU KOBAKO” is a minimalist Japanese Sumi-e ink set, composed of three basic pieces for beginning traditional Japanese painting.
The concept of diluting paint using an ultra-pigmented (black) ink stick allows the set to be used in various techniques such as watercolor, drawing, calligraphy, sumi-e, or other water-based colouring techniques. With the ink stick, one can easily control the paint’s thickness and mixing, adjusting the “bleeding” and blurring of the colour.
The set combines Japanese quality, tradition and aesthetics, making it a stylish gift for any occasion where you want to give something unique and inspiring.
How to use:
- Add water to the inkstone base.
- Grind the ink stick against the stone with pressure in circular movements.
- When the ink reaches the desired consistency, guide it to the sloping part of the inkstone (the ink puddle).
- Repeat steps 1–3 as needed to obtain the desired amount of ink.
After use, gently wipe the ink stick with a cloth or paper to remove moisture. The ink is easy to rinse and clean.
