This paper is developed especially for Japanese Sumi-e painting and is ideal for wet techniques like ink and watercolor. The paper is natural white with a slightly rough surface and top glued. “Sumi” means “black ink” and “e” means both “path” and “painting”.

Hahnemühle FineArt is one of the leading manufacturers of paper, based in Dassel, Germany. They started their production in 1584 and are still going, to say the least. Today, Hahnemühle is one of the few manufacturers that has their own paper mill. Something else that is unique about them is that they have been producing paper in the same place for 430 years.
