The story behind Pilot
Pilot was founded in 1918 in Tokyo by Ryosuke Namiki and Masao Wada, two sailors with a passion for writing instruments. Their first innovation was the stainless steel nib, which solved the problem of fountain pens rusting at sea. In 1926, they took the next big step by patenting a unique ink delivery system for fountain pens, setting a new global standard. Since then, Pilot has continued to develop pens that combine technology, quality and design – from ballpoint pens and rollerballs to fountain pens and acrylic markers.
