New ideas and innovative mixed-media techniques by Robert Dutton.
Explore exciting new ways to use graphite, charcoal, and mixed media to create dramatic landscape drawings – under the guidance of experienced artist Robert Dutton.
This book is aimed at artists who want to discover new ways of using different drawing materials to create expressive and dramatic landscapes. Artist and author Robert Dutton uses his powerful and free drawing and painting style to capture the mood, energy, and drama of the landscape. He combines materials such as liquid graphite, ink, metallic ink, charcoal, and water-soluble crayons and pastels, and also experiments with collage.
Focusing on black-and-white work, Drawing Dramatic Landscapes explores fundamental drawing techniques with a limited range of materials and gradually introduces new techniques and media. It serves as a highly instructive guide to the methods Robert himself uses, including numerous exercises and large step-by-step projects that illustrate his working process. The book also presents a range of finished artworks by the author, with explanatory captions describing the techniques he employed – making it both inspiring and informative.
Robert often works outdoors directly from life before finishing his pieces in the studio. His approach is both realistic and inspiring, making this an appealing book for experienced artists who want to gain insight into how today’s innovative artists work with new and experimental techniques.
